Eugene L. Bert

Eugene L. Bert, Sr, 83, of Weltytown peacefully passed away with his family at his side Thursday, January 14, 2016. He was born in Swissvale, PA February 12, 1932 and was the son of Harvey and Florence Dopler Bert. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Trauger. Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver for Jones Motor Freight and St. Johnsbury Trucking and a member of Teamster Local 30. Gene liked spending time outdoors gardening and mowing and enjoyed working on anything with wheels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Bert Vyskievich. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Iris Rolla Bert; children Sandra (Steve) Penska of Maryland, Eugene “Buddy” (Denise) Bert, Jr of Florida, Wayne Bert of Florida, Mary Adele (Roy) Olinger of Norvelt, Crystal (Jim) Hoke of Bullskin Township, Roberta (Jeff) Storey of North Carolina, and Melanie (Eric) Cooper of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Colleen McBride, Kyle and Kurt OIinger, Jimmy and Callie Hoke, Priscilla Storey, Tabitha Cooper, Kelly Hippmann, Jared and Rachel Penska, Joshua Bert, Courtney Hamilton, and Conner Bert; 10 great grandchildren; siblings William Bert, Melvin (Marge) Bert, Gail Lander; brother-in-law Dale (Amy) Rolla; sister-in-law Hollie Rolla; and numerus nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family and Friends will be received from 2-8 pm Sunday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Norvelt. Funeral service will be 1 pm on Monday with Pastor Mark A. Werner officiating in the funeral home. Interment to follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
