Gloria Marie Balog

Gloria Marie Balog, 90, of Norvelt, passed away at her home on Nov. 1, 2026. She was born Jan. 16, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie Mlinek.

Prior to retirement, Gloria worked as a seamstress.

She was a lifelong member of St. Florian Church, as well as a member of the Hilltop Quilters and Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed quilting, camping, traveling and going to the casino.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Balog Jr.; a granddaughter, Leslie Hill; her sisters, Anna Jane Barnett, Dolores Moore and Betty Lou Varhola; and her brothers, Joe and Herb Mlinek.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Hill (Terry Wegman) and Gary Balog (Gerri Tagge); grandchildren, Sarah (Sean) Gage and Amber (Troy) Cannon; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kaleb Gage; a sister, Barb Malone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers, Mitzie and Purple Maureen and her many other caregivers with hospice.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 PM until the time of vigil prayers at 7:45 PM on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Hoffer Wilt Funeral Home, Norvelt, where transfer prayers will be said at 9:15 AM on Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Florian Church. Burial will follow in St. Florian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memorial can be made to the UPMC Center for Liver Care, 3459 Fifth Ave Seventh Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
