Helen L. DeFlorio, of Hecla, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 103. Born on April 18, 1922, she lived a long and fulfilling life, marked by her devotion to family, faith, and simple joys.
Helen was a cherished member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Trauger. Her love for baking was well-known among family and friends, especially her delicious bread and nutrolls. Helen also enjoyed playing bingo, a pastime that brought her much joy over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph DeFlorio; her parents, Paul and Anna Nemeth; brothers Edward and Paul Nemeth; and sisters Irene Rutkosky, Regina Smail, and Rita Onusko.
Helen is survived by her loving sons, Edward (Keith), Ronald (Kathy), and Joseph, all residing in Hecla. She leaves behind cherished memories with her grandchildren, Adam (Tammy) DeFlorio and Sharalyn (David) Yuhouse, Jr., as well as her great-grandchildren, Kynslee and Palmer. Helen's legacy also lives on through her numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, on Tuesday, August 12, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Parastas service will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral Divine Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, August 13, at 10 am in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Trauger, with Panakhyda beginning at 9:15 am in the funeral home, by Fr. Paul-Alexander Shutt.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Independence Hospice for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Amanda, Kaylee and Jackie.
