Irene Virginia (Laczek) Viazanko, 89, of United, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Mountain View Senior Living in Greensburg on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
She was born in New Kensington, PA on August 11, 1936, to the late John and Stella (Horenzy) Laczek. She was a 1955 graduate of Springdale High School, and employed by Allegheny Label Company in Cheswick before relocating to United to start her family after her wedding in 1963. In addition to being a beloved mother, she also often assisted her husband with his local business in United. She was a member of St. Florian's Church in United.
She enjoyed playing tennis in her early years, was an avid bingo player, enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, crocheting, and cooking. Later in life, she took up painting in her spare time.
She enjoyed socializing with her circle of numerous close friends from the neighborhood and her church as well as with local and distant relatives. As the surviving sibling, she embraced her role as family matriarch and took pride in preserving and passing along the family's history. In her later years, she found community among the residents and staff at Mountain View Senior Living.
She is survived by her two children Michael Anthony Viazanko of Springfield, VA, and Cherylann (Joseph) Pikovsky of Greensburg, and grandchildren Rachel Stofko (Ben Bitner) of Greensburg, and Ryan (Adrienne) Stofko of Phoenixville, PA, as well as great-grandchildren Emmett, Ezra, and Elia, a sister-in-law Judy Laczek and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Adam Viazanko II and her siblings, Mary Swidwa, John Laczek, Helen Zimmerman, and Robert "Bob" Laczek.
Family and friends will be received from 4pm until the time of vigil prayers at 7:45pm on WEDNESDAY at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt where transfer prayers will be said at 9:15am THURSDAY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Florian Catholic Church. Burial to follow in St. Florian Cemetery.
