Michael “Mike” J. Mizikar, Jr., 87 of Norvelt, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Born June 4, 1929, he was a son of Michael J. and Anna Uschock Mizikar, Sr. Mike retired from Saint-Gobain of Latrobe where he worked as a millwright. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church and served his country and community. A veteran of the Korean War, he was a Marine Sgt. In the community, he was an assistant scout leader for troop 473 of Norvelt and a member of Harrold’s Western Squares. Mike volunteered along with his wife, Jerry, at Overly’s Country Christmas. He was loved by his family who appreciated his ability to fix “everything”. He an avid gardener and gifted pyrographer.
In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a son, Dr. Michael J. Mizikar III, and brother William Mizikar. He was the loving husband of 61 years to Geraldine “Jerry” Dzambo Mizikar and the loving father to George Mizikar and his wife Judy of Greensburg, Danielle Lukon and her husband John of Derry, Stanley Mizikar and his wife Sherry of Norvelt, Alisa Mizikar and her husband John Davenport of London, OH, and daughter-in-law Linda Mizikar of West Paint, NE. He was the grandfather of George Mizikar, Mary Ruzic (Matthew) , Michael J. Mizikar IV (Rebecca), Monica and Melanie Mizikar, Amber Eaglehouse (Michael) , John Michael Lukon, and Elizabeth Mizikar; great-grandfather of Cayden, Benjamin, Emma, Jasen, and Claire. He is also survived by his siblings, Josephine and John Holoman of New Castle, Elona and Thomas Pendrick, David and Kathy Mizikar, Robert and Juanita Mizikar all of Mammoth; sister-in-law Mary Ann Mizikar; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Family and Friends will be received from 2-8 pm Friday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Norvelt, PA. A vigil prayer service will be at 7:45. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 am Saturday in the funeral home with transfer prayers, funeral mass will be at 10 am in St. Florian Catholic Church, Rev. John A. Sedlak, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Trauger. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Michael’s memory to Norvelt EMS, 2265 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666
