Steve and Elizabeth Babick gave life to a shining light on January 18, 1936. A graduate of St. Florian’s and a lifetime member of the parish, she went on to marry the love of her life and her best friend, Lee, on October 15, 1955. They started a beautiful life together with family and a close circle of friends. Pauline, a lifetime resident of Southwest, PA, was an avid bowler with the Elks mixed couple league and loved to garden. On August 3, 2016, surrounded by family and friends, she peacefully went to be with her Lord.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 year, Lee Oplinger; Children Ken (Cheryl) Oplinger, Karen Maczka (Nadine Cornwell), Debbie (Doug) Smartnick, Kevin (Mindy) Oplinger, David (Denise) Oplinger, and Darla (Rich) Baker. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with another due in 10 weeks. In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by two infant granddaughters, Nicole Smartnick and Brittany Oplinger; four sisters; and two brothers. Her grandsons will escort their grandmother to her final resting place in the family burial site: Ron Maczka, Matt Oplinger, Chad Oplinger, Jason Smartnick, Mike Oplinger, Shawn Smartnick, Bryan Smartnick, and A.J. Oplinger. Family and friends will be received in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt, 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday with a vigil service at 7:45 with Rev. John A. Sedlak. Funeral services will begin at 9:10 am with transfer prayers in the funeral home and her funeral mass at 10 am at St. Florian’s Catholic Church, United. Interment to follow at St. Florian Cemetery.
