Shirley J Chavara, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully July 26, 2026 in Mt. View Senior Living. She was born in 1930 in Sharon, PA, to the late Harold and Minnie (Moore) Reid.

Shirley was a member of Charter Oak Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, shopping and had a soft spot for animals.

Shirley married the love of her life, Frank M. Chavara in 1950. Their marriage lasted 65 years until Frank passed away in 2015. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Harold and Robert, numerous brothers and sisters in law, and many dear friends.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Lorrie (Bob) Holst and son Frank Jr (Diane) Chavara, both of Greensburg. She was beloved Mimi to her grandchildren Allison (Ryan), Kasie, Cole (Brooke), and Lindsay (Robb), and great-grandchildren Levi, Hunter, John, Natalie, Colton, Juliette, Reid, Gabriella and Wells. They were her greatest blessing and she cherished every hug, holiday, celebration, school event, dance recital and quiet moment with them.

She is also survived by grandchildren James (Nicole), Sara (Jason) and Lennox, loving sister-in-law Emily (Ray) Scelsi and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. View Senior Living where Shirley resided the past 6 months, as well as Bridges Hospice who cared for her with love and compassion.

There is no public viewing and services are private. She will be laid to rest at Westmoreland County Memorial Park.

Services are under the direction of Hoffer Wilt Funeral Home, Norvelt.
