Thomas D. Summy, 64, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on June 3, 2025, at his home. He was born April 30, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Eva (Dunn) Summy and the late Wendell J. Summy.
Tom was a true outdoorsman who especially loved picking morel mushrooms and working with rocks. He built a four-tier patio and swimming pool with a fountain, entirely from hand-dug stones he carried from the woods, for his girlfriend.
He was raised working on the family farm and was known for his intelligence and wide-ranging skills. Over the years, he worked in a shrimp cannery in Alaska, Lucas and Executive Pools, Wilkinson Nursery, Kim Nursery, Harhai Landscaping, Roland Painting, and as a glass installer for Busch Glass and Terry’s. He also worked as a plumber, landscaper, furniture repair tech for Levin’s, and most recently, an electrician for Daniel’s Electric.
Tom was a jack of all trades, if he didn’t know how to do something, he’d figure it out. He loved listening to the blues and had a special interest in “Big Foot.” He also had a deep love for animals, especially his little buddies Blue, who once saved his life, and Pitzy Ann.
He is survived by his mother, Eva Summy; his partner of 43 years, Debbie Miller; and his brother, Robert (Linda) Summy. Special thanks go to his brother, sister-in-law, and his boss, Todd Daniels. The family also extends their gratitude to Westmoreland ICU and Independence Hospice, especially Daryann and Jody, for their wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Hoffer Wilt Funeral Home, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt.
